Steve's Travel Blog-Our Getaways

She spent her childhood traveling the country with her school teacher parents. He was the son of a Baptist preacher who attended 18 schools. They both spent their formative years constantly meeting new people and seeing new places. In 1990 she was a college sophomore and he an aspiring musician. They found each other and ran away together to seek their fortune. Today Steve is the singer/songwriter for Nashville recording artists Hillbilly Vegas and Monica teaches 1st grade. These are their travel adventures.

Spring has SPRUNG!

Hello from Ringo Manor…it’s been a good few weeks for Hillbilly Vegas. We’ve begun to see some press come our way. The reviews are still strong for Ringo Manor and we’re playing more lately. Hopefully this is a continuing trend.

Gettin’ Yer Hair Did!

We think it’s so cool that the good folks at Supercuts have decided to feature US…in all 2000 of their hair salons. Hillbilly Vegas is now on the soundtrack to your every haircut! What a cool thing. Visit Supercuts and hit the logo above to getcha a download of our Helluva Night!

Luck Be a Lady times 2…

We had 2 great nights playing the casinos. On Friday night, March 9 we were in Pocola playing the Choctaw Casino . It was a full house and we surpassed our own bar sales record…which was the 2nd best night ever. Not sure how close we got to the top sales night in their history but we’ve got 2 and 3 for sure. We’ve set our sites on that top spot next time though.

On Saturday night the 10th…we visited the fine folks of Idabel, OK and the casino out there for the first time. It was a fun night and we made a lot of new friends. We’ve been pretty lucky to date. We’ve only had to play to one empty room in the last 2 years…knock on wood. We are so proud of the friends that travel to see us play wherever we go and so grateful for the new friends we make at each stop.

Next stop Nashville:

On Sunday the 18th we are so excited to be performing for the American Pickers. We’ll be at their Nashville location in the Marathon Motors building (which happens to also be the building where we recorded Ringo Manor). It’s a cool show and an even cooler honor to be asked to perform there.

Places Everyone:

The main reason we’re headed to Nashville next week is to finish working on the Little Miss Rough and Tumble video. We’ve done all our local shots and are headed to work with Stacie Heckuba for the rest. We’ll be on a soundstage lip syncing for hours on end. Now, if you’ve never done it…maybe it sounds easy. Not so much! Listen, you have to pretend to be singing, playing air guitar, drums and bass and all the while making sure you’re not sticking your belly out, or making stupid faces that will haunt you for the rest of your life. Just call it another day in the life of a bunch of guys pursuing the dumbest profession out there.
It’ll be up to Stacie to make us look MUCH better than we are. She’s great. If you haven’t caught her work here’s a link: She’s done videos for some pretty big names and we are confident she can make us look better than reality.

Back at the Rutledge:

We’ll be capping our 5 day trip to Nashville off by having the honor of performing on the Billy Block Show at the Rutledge in Nashville. It’s a great show to be a part of and a great place to perform. It’s a multi camera broadcast with a bunch of heavy hitters in the audience and some really great up and coming and already established artists performing that night. It’s very exciting. It’s our second time to perform on Billy’s show and we can’t wait.

There's no place like...

We’re back home at the end of the month…we’ve got a surprise for Johnny Ringo’s birthday on the 30th…details on the way.
In April we’re headed to Texas FINALLY to play in Dallas. It’s been a long time coming for that gig…we’ve got so many great friends down south, it’s going to be great!
Then in May we’re back in Fort Smith at the Rib Room…details coming on that one too.
So there ya go…stay tuned and get ready for a bunch of good stuff on the way.

See ya soon, Steve
